Videos and Photos about the color and taste of the water began to surface online sparking national outrage. Organized protests in Flint and DC brought light to the severity of the situation. The national attention forced both Flint Mayor Karen Weaver and Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder to declare a state of emergency. Eventually, the water shortage in Flint caused by the lack of an emergency corrosion control plan forced President Obama to declare a federal state of emergency in order to supply the city with free filters and water testing.
